JEN G

After two decades of working in various roles, I returned to the one thing that had always ignited my passion: art. The years spent away were filled with valuable experiences and skills, but they often felt like a diversion from my true calling.

Rediscovering art has been transformative, allowing me to reconnect with a part of myself that I had set aside for far too long. Each stroke of the brush or pencil on the canvas reignites a sense of purpose and fulfilment that had slowly faded during my time in other professions.

It's often said that one should do what they were born to do; if that path isn't feasible, then pursuing something closely related will bring you satisfaction. In my case, returning to art feels like coming home. It’s not merely a hobby or a pastime; it is the embodiment of my identity and a testament to my inner voice.

This journey has taught me the importance of embracing our passions, regardless of the time that has passed. Art is not just about skill; it is about expression and connection, aspects that resonate deeply with me now more than ever. Each piece I create is a reflection of my journey, a blend of struggle and triumph, reminding me that it is never too late to follow your heart.

  • "One Easter at primary school. I made a collage of an Easter egg. It had zig zags of light blue, light pink and light green foiled paper, and I was so excited by the concept of this egg (zig zag Easter eggs were nothing new ha!). But it had something about it. I’m pretty sure I knew this collage was neither good nor bad and it really just set off excitement in me. Art class was my happy place.”

  • Description text goes here“I would say my style hasn’t settled just yet.

I’ve always been drawn to street art, but that isn’t to say that’s where I want to end up. I love figurative painting, and so I’ve been having a play at that. It’s definitely an unknown path. I can’t imagine myself as being known for just one thing.”

  • “Social media - without a doubt. The freedom to express and establish your identity or business within your own boundaries is amazing. I also owe my inspiration to a small number of Instagram artists. Knowing that the art world is changing has provided great leverage within my self-belief system.”

  • “I guess that depends on the piece? But ultimately I want each piece to signify a change or development, and to encourage the viewer. If somebody sees a self-portrait or a focus on one part of my body, I hope that they can see that it’s possible to lay themselves bare. And if they see something beautiful or crazy I hope it inspires them to do more, be themselves and head to where they want to go”.
